The green copper rod

This green thing was passed on to me by the Mother in Law. This rod was originally here father’s.

The following pictures show this copper rod in its current out of the loft state.

After searching the world using Goggle and eBay, nothing really came up. Well other than some reference on a chat/post somewhere talking about someone else’s copper rod, suggesting it was probably made from an ex-army antenna.

Well that triggered my lone brain cell. Having a fair bit of antenna knowledge gain over many years, I had a closer look at how the sections joined and the colour. That lone brain cell went ‘F’ or ‘M’ rods.

I could not find any real pictures or description of these rod sections. I am positive the rods I remember from my past, screwed together and not a push fit.

So the following is some pictures to help support my assumptions.

The tip section
The mid section join.

As it can be seen the join is at the 1m mark.

So in conclusion, this is rod is made up of to 2 * 1m copper antenna rods (M Rods) screwed together with a cork grip added.

The big question is what to do with this rod now. It will be restored and used. But what as? The way the cork handle is made along with the reel clamping rings, it shouts “make me into a combined fly/spinning rod for lure fishing”.

The first thing to decide on is the line guide type. So off to search the World Wide Web to see what I can find.

BACK SOON (27th May 2025)……
